Autumn 2006 Quiz Answer

Susan Knapp signed her name to this historic object. It belongs to our church, but is seldom seen. What is it?

A. A handkerchief that belonged to George Washington, who visited King Street during a journey to Boston in 1788

B. A quilt fashioned by members of the church in the late 1800s

C. A treaty with the Pasmaquoddy Indian tribe, conveying 20,000 acres in what is now the King Street area in exchange for six steel plows, 12 oxen, and 50 bolts of white English linen

D. A diploma bestowed on an 1887 graduate of the Danbury College of Beauty and Culture, which later became Western Connecticut State University

E. A bandage made by church members during World War I, when six men from our congregation served on the Western Front

F. A lapel on the uniform of Danbury native Edwin Wooster, the only Civil War veteran known to have fought on both the Union and Confederate armies, who is buried in the King Street Cemetery

...B, a quilt fashioned by members of the church in the late 1800s. A friend gave the quilt to King Street Church's senior historian Barbara Westby and her late husband Ed, who donated it to the church. Here's a photo of Pastor Cindy Maddox with the quilt:
