Fiddle Tunes and Bluegrass Music to Highlight
Country Fair
DANBURY, Conn. -- For the first time in its 62-year history, the
King Street Church Country Fair will feature a Country & Bluegrass
Music Festival this year. The event, open to all, will take place on
Saturday, June 17, at the King Street United Church of Christ in
Danbury from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The church is at the
corner of King and South King streets.
In addition to the music Festival, the day's events will include
a barbecue, homemade strawberry shortcake, jerk chicken, a jumping
castle for children, crafts to buy, a plant sale, and a bake sale.
Also, a silent auction will feature numerous bargains including
several items of furniture (beds, a dresser, a desk, chairs, rugs).
The music schedule for the day is as follows:
Noon. Sherman resident Don Lowe will play the guitar and
sing country tunes.
1 p.m. Well-known Danbury musician
Larry Deming has put together
a group he calls "Sawmilll" that will play down-home, foot-stompin'
fiddle tunes and old-time dance music from New England to Georgia,
with a focus on the Appalachians. Members of the group are Larry
Deming on fiddle; Jordan Jancz, cello; and Peter Bennett, guitar.
2 p.m. One of Connecticut's hottest bluegrass bands,
"Hoe," led by Dick Neal of
Fairfield, will perform. Hoe plays a blend of bluegrass, old-time,
and pop often referred to as "contemporary string band music." The
group performs at clubs and other settings throughout New Haven and
Fairfield counties. (Click
